RARE 1930'S, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, PRE-WWII, AME RI CAN VINTAGE HALLOWEEN BLACK CAT,'TRICK OR TREAT' RIGID, PAPER MACHE, GLITTER ENHANCED, HANDLED CHILDREN'S CANDY COLLECTION BASKET, featuring LOOPED, H I N G E D W I R E H A N D L E , with COLOR LITHOGRAPHED, AFFIXED PAPER DECALS on SLANTED PAPER CONE PEDESTAL BASE. Early 20th century, pre-WWII Ame ri can vintage circa 1930's, Halloween'Trick or Treat' paper mache, wire handled, figurative candy collection baskets. 8 1/2 full Height (including raised, upright handle).

4 1/2" Height x 5 1/2" Width (ear to ear). 2 5/8 top rim Diameter. D E S C R I P T I O N. In incredible, extremely well-preserved overall vintage condition.

Nearly as it was when it was originally constituted, some 80 to 90 years ago. It would be difficult to ask for a vintage artifact and such a delicate object, that would've been once handled by children, to have remained in much better condition than this. We haven't even dusted it off, for fear that the glitter enhanced surfaces might be subsequently disturbed. The cat consists of a hand-built, paper mache body, possibly molded over a small balloon, which was later popped and removed, leaving the hard-shelled cat's head. Folded paper ears were then attached to the ball which makes up the cat's head and face. Glitter was glued onto the facia of the paper mache ball and then scraped away with a knife, revealing the cat's eyebrows, nose and mouth. These areas were then decorated with glue affixed, color lithographed paper decals, comprising the mouth, nose, eyes and eyebrows.

The cat sits on a slanted paper pedestal base. An orange, glitter sprinkled hand grasp in the middle of the looped, hinged wire handle, completes it.
